MAITHREE - SPECIAL SCHOOL ULLAGARAM - NANGANALLUR
On 5th Oct (Tuesday) the Prayas members started from the L&T office at 9.15 am and reach the at around 10 am. The teachers from the Maithree School gave us all a very warm welcome after which, we all gathered for the assembly. The children started with a prayer song and a yoga routine. Later Dr. Sunderamurthi started a check-up for the children one by one. With great patience each and every child, accompanied by their mothers, went through the check-up. It was a heavy sight to see the children unable to express their pains and problems. Their mothers helped them out.All the children were under the medical guidance of the Neurologist Doctor's advice. Hence, our doctor prescribed basic medicines alone. Many children complained that they were going through stomach upsets and skin problems.
The Primary section consisted of 25 children and the Secondary school had 20 children. 13 children were in the Vocational Training section. A total of 53 children were given medical care ! The Prayas members distributed medicines at the venue itself. The teachers asked us for a First-aid box. However, we did not have one. Thus, our doctor has adviced that we donate a First-aid kit containing basic medicines. The principal of Maithree requested us to conduct a medical camp every month for the children. Due to the unlikeliness of the request we assured them that Prayas would conduct a similar medical camp once in 3 months, once discussed with the Prayas Trustees. All the teachers and parents were very co-operative as they help the children during the medical camp.We gave biscuit packets to each child, which they were very glad to have !The Vocational training students kept some items for display. Our members purchased a few and encourage the students in a humble way. Mr. Suresh did an excellent job throughout. The *Prayas Trust banner*, given to the medical centre was awesome. It's comfortable to carry around and gives the Prayas Trust a new and fresh look. Thanks to Mrs. Jayashree. Mrs. Raji, Mrs. Sankari, Mrs. Radhai, Mrs. Pramila, Mrs. Latha, Mrs.Ezhil, Mrs. Vatsala and Mrs. Amudha were the Prayas members who volunteered an helped the *special* and exceptional children during the medical camp. The camp was well organised and went off very well.It is painful to see these special children of God. This medical camp has given us a deep insight on how lucky we are to be gifted with good health and wealth. It was an eye opening experience and we must how the world that there are people who are less fortunate AND how those people fight the everyday battles to be one among all of us. It is an honour to serve those extraordinary people... especially through Prayas. There is nothing better than helping others for a humble cause.
